Cement vs. Concrete

While the terms concrete and cement are often used interchangeably, cement is actually an ingredient of concrete. In its most simple form, concrete is a mixture of paste and aggregates (such as sand and rock). The paste, composed of cement and water, coats the surface of the fine (sand) and coarse aggregates (rock) and binds them together into a rock-like mass. This is what we all refer to as concrete.

In the simplest terms, cement is to concrete as flour is to cake. It’s an ingredient but not the cake itself.

The key to achieving a strong, durable concrete rests on the careful proportioning and mixing of the ingredients. This is exactly why we believe in trusting a tried and true concrete provider. At Hawkeye Ready Mix, you can expect quality products and service. It’s Concrete.
